Specifically, Lum VA Sumire Uesaka in the Urusei Yatsura remake starred in a photo shoot for the next issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday. In the shoot, Uesaka wore a black-and-yellow tiger pattern outfit that’s reminiscent of Lum. While the full photo set is likely going to be printed in the next Shonen Sunday issue, the anime’s official Twitter account shared a sample of the shoot. Uesaka also shared some photos via her personal Instagram account.
Uesaka is a voice actress who is known for playing a range of popular characters, including Hayase Nagatoro in Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro, Shalltear Bloodfallen in Overlord, and Chisato Shirasagi in BanG Dream!, among others. Her latest role is in Urusei Yatsura, an anime by David Production that’s a remake of the iconic 80s TV anime. Both shows are based on the manga series of the same name by the legendary Rumiko Takahashi, the creator of Ranma ½ and Inuyasha. The manga was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday from September 1978 to February 1987. Meanwhile, the first anime series aired beginning in 1981.
The series follows Ataru Moroboshi, a lecherous high school student who is chosen as Earth’s defender against an alien invasion. Instead of a brawl, Ataru must defend Earth in a game of tag with the planet’s freedom on the line.
In the game, Ataru faced Lum, a beautiful alien. Ataru ends up winning and screams out in celebration, but this celebration is misinterpreted by Lum as a marriage proposal. Because of this, Lum stays on Earth to begin her married life with Ataru.
As with many voice actors in Japan, Uesaka is no stranger to participating in promotional events and other activities that are pretty far from voice acting in anime. In fact, she has even performed anime songs for shows like Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions along with Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro. The Urusei Yatsura remake will be broadcast on Fuji TV in Japan. Meanwhile, the show won’t be released on Crunchyroll. Instead, it will be available on HIDIVE.
