Australian actor Michael Bishop has been tapped to replace Elsass in the role of Jonathan Kent in Superman & Lois according to TVLine. The casting comes as the series is gearing up to start production for its third season in Vancouver very soon.
Bishop recently starred in the Disney Channel original movie Spin. He also appeared in the Australian drama series Grace Beside Me and short films such as Shelter and Skin Like Bark. This will be Bishop’s first series regular role in an American TV series.
After reports came that Elsass has exited the series, the former Jonathan Kent actor broke his silence and addressed the reason in a series of Cameo videos why he decided not to return to the series.
“It’s been a tough few weeks, as you might imagine, with everything going on with the show,” he said. “It’s sad, it’s a real shame. I know that I was pumped for Season 3, for sure, but what are you going to do? Anyway, mental health is definitely 100-percent priority. It’s pinnacle. It’s got to take precedence. And mine has been… the last couple of years… it’s been rough.”
While the details for the third season have been mostly under wraps, the series recently cast The Orville star Chad L. Coleman to play the villain. David Ramsey also teased that John Diggle’s Green Lantern from the Arrowverse shows arc might be addressed in the series although there hasn’t been any confirmation that he will return in the third season.
