Amandla Stenberg was recently at the San Diego Comic-Con where she posed with props from the new Star Wars series Andor, as evidenced in a new Instagram post. The star of The Hate U Give even wore a shirt honoring Darth Maul. However, it was Stenberg’s caption that confirmed her next big project. Check it out below.
“Next stop: a galaxy far, far away…” Stenberg wrote. “I am so excited to finally announce I’m joining Star Wars: #TheAcolyte! Honored is an understatement. May the Force be with you.”
This is great news considering that Amandla Stenberg has long been rumored to be in the running to take on the lead role in The Acolyte. After months of speculations, we’re glad to finally get a confirmation that she is officially joining the Star Wars Universe.
Amandla Stenberg made her acting debut in the Zoe Saldana film Colombiana before being cast as Rue in The Hunger Games. Since then, she has appeared in notable hits like Everything, Everything, The Hate U Give, The Darkest Minds, and Dear Evan Hansen. Stenberg has just completed work on the slasher flick Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, which is scheduled for theatrical release on August 5, 2022.
The Acolyte was officially unveiled during Disney Investor Day back in 2020 but there haven’t been a lot of updates on the project. We only know that Russian Doll’s Leslye Headland will serve as writer and showrunner of the project which is part of Star Wars’ The High Republic multimedia franchise.
For now, we don’t have a lot of details about The Acolyte. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
