Speaking recently with Variety, Johnson shared some updates on his planned Star Wars trilogy where he assured that the project is still in the works. He also explained why he is taking so long on the development of the project. “I have talked to Kathy [Kathleen Kennedy] about it and we’re still talking about it. I had such an amazing experience making The Last Jedi. It’s entirely a matter of scheduling. For me, putting this [Glass Onion] out and making the next one of these…the answer is I don’t know,” the director said. When asked if the audience will definitively see his Star Wars trilogy in the future, he simply responded, “God I hope so.”
This should put down any speculations that plans for Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy are already scrapped since the director has confirmed that they are still working on it and it also sounds like they are still planning to make it happen despite the delays and the backlash that The Last Jedi also received from some fans. We also have to consider that Johnson is also busy working on the Knives Out sequels for Netflix which seem to be his main focus at the moment and the Star Wars trilogy project is currently one of his backburners. It’s hard to tell right now when will we see the director start making the project happen. It might take a while before we get to hear any actual updates about the development of the project. Either way, it looks like it is still something that we can look forward to in the near future.
