Speaking with Inverse, Neil Gaiman bluntly says this is how the conversation between him and the series’ haters usually go, depicting how they had not even read the original source material before casting their judgement on the show. Read Gaiman’s full quote below:
Gaiman said almost the same thing when people reacted negatively to Lucifer being played by Gwendoline Christie, indicating that people have simply interpreted Lucifer to be a man with male genitalia. In response, Gaiman simply shrugged it off by saying ‘perhaps it’s because Christie is taller than the original version.’
Gaiman had also responded to similar issues like when a Scooby-Doo writer said Velma coming out as a lesbian wasn’t planned, Gaiman had brought in some of the ‘evidence’ indicating Velma’s sexuality early on in the Mystery Gang’s series.
