In House of the Dragon Episode 4, Daemon Targaryen takes his niece Rhaenyra Targaryen to the seedier parts of the city where they end up in a brothel and almost have sex. Although nothing happened, Otto Hightower got word of what happened and immediately reported to King Viserys I Targaryen. The King is infuriated and he banishes Daemon to the Vale. Viserys then speaks to his daughter, first revealing to her the secret inscription in the Valyrian steel dagger that has been passed down to all Targaryen rulers.

We already know that the catspaw dagger once belonged to Aegon the Conqueror but Viserys also confirms that it originally belonged to Aenar Targaryen, father of Daenys Targaryen who predicted the Doom of Valyria. That’s not the only surprising thing we learned about the weapon. When heated up, it reveals the High Valyrian glyphs telling Aegon’s song. “From my blood come the prince that was promised, and his will be the song of ice and fire,” the inscription reads. In the end, the dagger was lost as the Targaryens failed to continue ruling Westeros. Still, it found a hand that would deliver the final blow to the Night King and put an end to the long-prophesized war. House of the Dragon Episode 4 is now available on HBO Max. House of the Dragon Episode 5 is titled We Light the Way and will premiere on HBO on Sunday, September 18, 2022.
