With The Rock only months away from finally setting foot into the world of DC superheroes as a super villain, he surprisingly attended last week’s San Diego Comic-Con wearing his Black Adam suit. Later at the event, Black Adam director Jaume Collet-Serra spoke with Collider to discuss the upcoming film and how it’s an entirely distinct role for The Rock. “I think in this movie, like Adam is undoubtedly the main source of conflict in the movie,” the director revealed. “And I think that that was a very interesting take, because normally, a character that Dwayne would play in a movie would be the solution to the problem. Right? Like there’s an earthquake. So here comes Dwayne to the rescue, right? Which is great. That’s the normal movie, even in Jungle Cruise. Here’s the thing, Dwayne is a hero. In this one, he was the problem for everybody else. And I think that that shift is what made these movies instantly different and reenergized. You could do things that you might have seen in other movies, but in a completely different way, because it’s not your lead guy doing them.“Unlike DC’s Superman and Batman, The Rock’s Black Adam is evidently on the opposite side and is also far away from the typical roles the actor usually plays. Throughout his triumphant decade-long years in Hollywood, his iconic films include Hercules, Rampage, and Jumanji, where he all plays a heroic role. Now that The Rock is set to play an antagonist role for the first time, fans are absolutely inquisitive about his approach to one of the most infamous DC Comics villains, Black Adam. Alongside The Rock, he will be joined by an ensemble cast that includes Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Noah Centineo as Albert Rothstein, Sarah Shahi as Isis, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. Black Adam will hit the big screens on October 21.Also read: Shazam! Director Wants Fury of the Gods to Cross 1 Billion at the Box Office
