So why is K-2SO not in Andor? Showrunner Tony Gilroy recently took part in the Television Critics Association’s press tour where he explained why the series isn’t bringing in Kaytoo (via The Hollywood Reporter).
“From a storytelling point of view, there are multiple reasons,” Gilroy said. He then pointed out that fans shouldn’t lose hope just yet.
“I would say, ‘Wait and see.’ It’s a story we are eager to tell,” Gilroy admitted. He further explained that it’s not easy to bring in Kaytoo right away.
“It’s difficult to carry an Imperial droid around with you and not draw all kinds of attention. It’s a difficult piece of luggage,” Gilroy said. “When we do it, we’ll do it in a spectacular fashion as opposed to presenting it and ignoring it, or presenting it or hiding it, or the bad versions we would have been forced to do.”
It’s understandable that the team is taking their time to tell the story. After all, Andor has already been confirmed for multiple seasons and they could eventually bring in K-2SO in the second or third season of the Star Wars show. With that in mind, we’re looking forward to seeing Alan Tudyk’s Kaytoo with his BFF Cassian in the future.
Andor will bring back Rogue One star Diego Luna as Cassian Andor. The series is set for a three-episode premiere on September 21, 2022.
